UAE Central Bank warns of fraud WhatsApp messages

Abu Dhabi - CBUAE never uses social media to contact individuals or businesses, the regulator said.

The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has warned consumers about "malicious WhatsApp messages" from banks.
The messages are a of "fraudulent nature", it said on Sunday. "The CBUAE advises (consumers) to avoid responding to such messages and opening any hyperlink that may be attached."

Clicking on the link would take consumers to a "malicious website", the CBUAE warned. "The public should be aware that the CBUAE never uses social media to contact individuals or businesses. We remind consumers of the importance of protecting their bank account information and credit/debit cards from fraud and unauthorised use."
