The move underpins the state’s recognition of the critical role the teacher is playing in the nation’s development. It also highlights the leaders’ belief that education is the basis of development and progress and that the well-being of the teacher is the building block of any modern state.

Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, instructed all departments at his ministry to immediately put the directives of the President and the Vice-President into action. The aggregate financial cost of these promotions, he said, would be Dh368 million a year. Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, said that the Ministry of Finance is in the process of taking necessary measures to coordinate with the Ministry of Education for tailoring the required jobs for promotion and making financial allocations in the MoF budget so that the MoE can implement the promotion orders and make adjustment in the salaries of the beneficiaries.

Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qattami, Minister of Education, expressed gratitude to Shaikh Khalifa and Shaikh Mohammed for taking such a step which, he said, highlights the leadership’s care and support for science and education, and stimulates staff at the ministry of education to make every possible effort to pursue overall development.

Earlier this year, Shaikh Khalifa had ordered a 35 per cent increase in the basic salary of federal government employees, including those in the ministry of education. The decree also included a technical allowance of 100 per cent to be added to the work nature allowance of those working in the teaching field at the ministry of education.
