Bahrain slams European report on rights in UAE

The Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee of Bahrain’s Shura Council has underlined that the report of the European Parliament on human rights in the UAE was wrong, and did not reflect the reality of the UAE on levels of legislations or practices, whether concerning human rights or expatriate workers.

In a statement, the committee stressed that the decision of the European Parliament was based on controversies in all of its different themes, which made it lack credibility, especially in relation to conditions of expatriate workers in the labour market governed by laws that provide protection to foreign workers.

The committee highlighted that the labour market is governed by legislations and policies providing protection to the workers, and at the same time ensuring legitimate interests of employers. It also called on the European Parliament, other bodies and organisations to verify accuracy and seek information from their real source before shooting accusations.

The committee pointed out that the UAE’s achievements in the field of human rights is clear and are recorded in reports respectable international organisations.

At the end of its statement, the committee appreciated the efforts and the role of the UAE and its sustainable action in achieving successful development for the interests of its people and all those who live in the land. The committee also noted that the security of the Gulf is indivisible, and the Bahraini stance towards those suspicious campaigns launched from time to time on the UAE and other GCC states, is constant and solid in confronting these trends and erroneous policies.
