A grace period of 72 hours will be provided for owners of targeted buildings to attest their tenancy contract before the disconnection.

The municipality earlier offered discounts for those who failed to attest their leasing contracts for years and provided them with opportunity to amend their situations, said Sultan Al Mullah, Director-General of Sharjah Municipality.

He pointed out that more than 20 per cent of leasing contracts in the emirate have not been attested by the municipality. Al Mullah said that the municipality had already coordinated with the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) to carry out the disconnection. The municipality is also working on finding a solution to get the attestation fees from the valid date of the tenancy contract to the expiry date.

He explained that the aim of the attestation is to protect the rights of the tenant and the landlord.
