Many smartphone users will often rave about how their device allows them to capture and immortalize different moments in their lives.
Today, with high performance devices, it is easy to take lots of high quality photos and videos at weddings, birthdays, and family outings. Whether users are keeping those memories safe is the real question, experts at the ongoing Gitex Shopper note.
Tech savvy users will never disregard the value of a powerful external hard disk in keeping their most precious moments safe. And with advancements that have been made in that space, including increased storage space and faster transfer speeds with USB 3.0, backing up your data has never been easier.
Retailers at the Gitex show revealed that the popularity of external storage devices continues, with many shoppers opting to spend a bit extra to scoop up extra storage space with their purchases.
"When you have a smartphone that can have up to 5,000 pictures and high definition videos on it, you should also buy a bit of extra storage for backup," said Nasir Khan, a shopper from Sharjah, who uses his phone to take lots of landscape photos, when he goes camping with his friends. "I like the Western Digital hard disks, so I will definitely buy one with my new phone. I know that there are some bundle deals like that here, so that will be my choice."
Nadeem Khanzadah, general manager and head of omni channel retail at Jumbo Electronics, noted that over the past few years, smartphones have also improved their offerings when it comes to storage capacities.
"IPhones used to be 16GB as an entry level standard, and now you see 64GB, and then the jump to 256GB; there is no inbetween," he said. "This is indicative of what the customers prefer. People want more physical data available to them."
He also noted that this was just the beginning, as external storage devices that stand at 4TB are now the new norm. Capacity, he noted, will be the new battleground.
"There have been limitations before, but it is much more easier to save your valuable memories today," says Ashish Panjabi, chief operating officer of Jacky's.
"Saving your files on an external hard disk is great, but there has been a shift towards cloud storage as well," he said. "Many people prefer that convenience, and the AI on many of the cloud sharing apps is making it much more easier to organise your pictures. Google Photos is also making it easier to search for particular people during special events. Sharing is also another element that has driven the popularity of these apps."
