Syria, needing a win to progress, was rewarded for some early pressure in the 15th minute when Mohamad al-Zino turned home the rebound after Jordan keeper Amer Shafi saved Sanhabrib Malki’s shot.

Jordan responded strongly and equalized in the 30th minute, when Syrian defender Ali Dyab headed a cross into his own net.

Striker Odai al-Saify scored Jordan’s winner in the 59th minute, slipping past Dyab and chipping the ball over the shoulder of keeper Mosab Balhous.

Jordan finished second in Group B, behind Japan, and plays Uzbekistan, the winner of Group A, in the quarterfinals.
