Johnson’s late strike earns Fulham point

WIGAN, England - Fulham’s former England striker Andy Johnson came off the bench to score a late equaliser in the 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers Wigan Athletic here on Saturday for the fifth successive draw between the two sides.

Colombian international striker Hugo Rodallega had given Wigan the lead in the 57th minute but former Everton star Johnson - who was returning after recovering from a torn hamstring - struck four minutes from time to garner a precious away point for Fulham.

The draw was enough for Wigan - whose effort to sell two tickets for 20 pounds for this traditionally unpopular fixture failed to pay off as they played to a far from full stadium - to move out of the bottom three as Wolves lost 4-3 to Manchester City.

Fulham are sixth from bottom but just two points above Wolves.

Rodallega struck early in the second-half to break the deadlock after a dire first-half, as he ran onto goalkeeper Ali al-Habsi’s long ball upfield and coolly slotted it over Fulham ‘keeper David Stockdale’s head for his sixth goal of the campaign.

Wigan held on with some ease to their advantage until Johnson’s devastating blow late on as his shot took a deflection and deceived the unfortunate Habsi.
