Popular apparel brand Bench’s Founder & CEO Ben Chan apologised to actor Coco Martin (pictured) for offending some people’s ‘sensitivities’ after gaining negative comments over their recently concluded fashion show.
This is in relation to one scene during the show featuring Ikaw Lamang actor Coco Martin, who led around a model wearing a leash onstage.
Netizens and political figures said that the act was degrading and derogatory to women, although others defended it, saying it was all part of the concept.
Coco Martin for his part also issued a public apology saying he had a high respect for women and did not intend to portray a role that would be deemed offensive or degrading. According to his lawyer/spokesperson, the actor did not find his role comfortable but was forced to go along with the script.
Days after the show on September 23, the brand Bench posted an apology on Instagram and Twitter for the “offensive elements” of the show that did not sit well with audiences.
