A 27-year-old Sudanese tourist, who arrived in the UAE just two days back, died after the 4WD he was travelling in flipped over several times in Sharjah's Al Fayah area.
Three of his friends and the vehicle's driver were seriously injured in the crash on the Mahafiz Road.
The four friends were being taken back after a desert safari when the speeding vehicle crashed. The driver lost control over the vehicle, causing it to flip over and crash into a sand dune.
The accident victims were rushed to Al Dhaid Hospital, where the 27-year-old was declared brought dead. The others are recuperating in a stable condition.
The police said despite their efforts to reduce speeding-related road accidents, they have continued due to reckless drivers. "We have increased the number of mobile radars, cameras and patrols to catch violations and ensure safety, especially during the weekends. Patrols have been deployed in vulnerable areas," said an officer.
In February this year, an Indian tourist couple were killed and five others from the same family, including two children, were injured after their speeding vehicle flipped over multiple times in Sharjah. The couple, who were on their first visit to the UAE for a family reunion, were being taken back after a desert safari when their vehicle crashed.
