The move is part of a security and safety project the Ministry of Public Works is carrying out on the emirate’s school campuses.

Phase one of the project includes 18 schools; the rest of the campuses in the emirate will get the service later, said Saleh Suliman Al Ali, Deputy Director for Financial and Administrative Affairs, Fujairah Education Zone.

About 95 per cent of the maintenance work in three schools has been completed, he said, noting that work is under way on the maintenance of three schools out of five. He said the execution rate is excellent and work is progressing as per schedule.

Al Ali said the education installations department at the Ministry of Education will carry out maintenance work in 21 schools while the maintenance works which began during the academic year 2011-2012 are still continuing.

The Fujairah Education Zone has requested the Ministry of Public Works to instal sunshades in 13 schools. Al Ali noted that five schools will get the shades in the first stage of the project, while the rest will get the facility later.

The Ministry of Public Works also approved a new campus for a primary school in Dibba Fujairah with a capacity for 1,000 students while another school with the same capacity will come up at Al Shiraiya. He added that the buildings are expected to be delivered by October 2013.
