The society, which runs over 180 schools in more than 13 countries, said on Sunday that DPS has plans of expansions in the UAE by building a school in Abu Dhabi. “We are trying to increase our visibility in this region and provide good quality education for Indian students here in the UAE,” said Chandra in an interview with Khaleej Times. He was in Dubai visiting the newly opened Delhi Private School Academy in Academic City.

“We already have our presence felt in several countries across the GCC nations, but demand in the region is generally on the rise,” said Chandra.

According to the chairman, the society might also consider opening schools for students in the ‘middle-income’ category. “It is something that we would consider over the coming years. No decision has been made as of yet. See, we believe that merely teaching a child to read and write is not enough. Yes, expensive education is a problem everywhere. But institutions are providing good quality infrastructure. But quality is something that is not only just spoken about, it needs to be put into practice,” added Chandra. The academy opened its doors to students in April 2013, following the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and charging annual fees of Dh21,000–30,000.

While inspecting the DPS Academy in Academic City, Chandra said: “The infrastructure is good. The school still needs to complete a few more things, which is the multi-purpose hall, the gymnasium and the swimming pool. Of course, we need more students.” Currently the school runs classes from Grades 1 to 5 and will upgrade to Grade 12 in the near future.
