Woman gets 7 years in jail for smuggling drugs into UAE

Dubai - She will also be deported after serving out her term.

A female tourist who tried to smuggle a large quantity of medically-controlled pills into the UAE, was sentenced to seven years in jail on Thursday.
The Dubai Court of First Instance also ordered the Romanian woman, 37, to pay a Dh50,000 fine.
She will be deported after completing her jail term.
The case dates back to March 3, when the tourist was caught at the Dubai International Airport with 6,705 psychotropic pills.  
According to the Dubai police crime lab report, two quantities of drugs were seized from the traveler by the customs officers at the airport.  
The right to appeal the court's ruling is 15 days.
