Dubai - A 32-year-old woman allegedly lifted her veil and groped a man inside a lift before stealing his money, a Dubai court has heard. The defendant, a Jordanian woman, denied the molestation and theft charges levelled against her in the Dubai Court of First Instance, claiming it was impossible for her to commit such an act as she is a “religious person”.

“It is all lies. I would never do that,” she claimed in court.

The complainant, an Indian employee, 23, claimed in the prosecution investigation that on December 17 last year, he was in the lift of their office building in Bur Dubai with the defendant. She reportedly initiated a conversation with him in Arabic before suddenly hugging him. She lifted her veil and kissed him, he claimed, and pressed her body against his. He claimed he tried to get out of the lift on the fourth floor, but the woman dragged him back inside, pressed the seventh floor button and hugged and kissed him again.

He said he found that Dh4,500 was stolen from his wallet when he got out on the seventh floor.

The defendant, who is currently in provisional detention, requested the court to check the CCTV footages and forensic evidence from the site, which, she claimed, would prove her innocence. She stressed before the judges that she was religious and “it would be out of the question” for her to have committed such an act.

The next hearing has been set for March 8.
