Clean sweep for UAE in golf as the hosts win team gold and Rayan claims individual title
The 40-year-old Indian car driver and a 39-year-old compatriot passenger, who was sitting in the front seat, died on the spot. The three other passengers, who were seriously injured, were rushed to the hospital.
Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafin, Director of the General Department of Traffic at the Dubai Police, said that some people were injured in another accident on Al Khail Road at the same time.
He said that usually serious accidents result from speeding as drivers fail to control their vehicles. Maj.-Gen. Al Zafin confirmed that the police patrols are continuing their campaign on all Dubai roads and especially in Al Warqa area to prevent reckless driving.
He called on parents to cooperate with the police and prevent their children from going out at late night and to know who their friends are and the places they go to.
He said that a father discovered that a driver was transporting his son daily to Al Warqa area to participate in unauthorised racing. The boy used to give money to the driver not to inform his father. He said that his son was injured recently while he was racing. Al Zafin noted that some people take BMW cars on rent and hide the number plates by certain material to escape radars while speeding. A police patrol had chased such a BMW car and arrested the Russian driver who confessed that he rented the car and hid the number so that he could drive on high speed without being caught by radars. He was referred to the prosecution for more investigation.
