Thousands of fake spare parts, perfumes seized in Sharjah

Sharjah - The official said that the products belonged to two Asians who will have to face a fine of up to Dh500,000 each and closure of the premises.

The Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) has confiscated large quantity of counterfeit products found in warehouses in Industrial areas during its inspection campaigns.
According to a top official at the department, the inspectors seized 35,848 fake auto spare parts worth Dh300,000 from a warehouse in Sharjah industrial area.
The inspectors also seized 92,948 bottles of perfumes counterfeiting various international brands from other warehouses.
The official said that the products belonged to two Asians who will have to face a fine of up to Dh500,000 each and closure of the premises. If the products are found to be affecting public health, they will be referred to police and public prosecution.
The fake perfumes could cause skin irritation and allergies for the users while the fake spare parts would cause serious accidents, he said.
The official said that the department, in coordination with concerned authorities, make great efforts in combating counterfeit products of international brands by carrying out daily inspections in various parts of the emirate.
