A salesman has been charged at the Dubai Court of First Instance for allegedly sexually harassing a woman while he was showing her products.
Public prosecution records show that on May 18, the 30-year-old Syrian salesman grabbed the hand of the woman, a Ghanaian, by force and made her touch him while he was presenting perfumes to her at his stall at the Dragon Mart. A complaint was filed against him at Al Rashidiya police station.
Prosecutors referred him to trial and requested the court to inflict the maximum punishment on him as per the law.
During the public prosecution investigation, the complainant, a 27-year-old resident, said that she was at the Dragon Mart where she worked on May 18. "It was around 11pm. The defendant, who also works there, offered me to try some perfumes. I tried one brand which I did not like. As I was about to leave, he grabbed me forcibly by my hand and pulled me towards him."
She recalled in front of the investigator how the accused then made her touch him.
The woman left the centre and headed right away to the police station to report the incident.
She identified the salesman three times among other suspects shown to her by the police.
The trial has been adjourned to September 8.
