On trial for smuggling narcotics
A 23-year-old Iranian visitor was on trial on Wednesday in the Court of First Instance on the charge of smuggling 2kg of methamphetamine.
The man was arrested at the Dubai International Airport on February 10 with the narcotics hidden in his baggage.
An Emirati customs inspector told the prosecutor that he was on duty that evening at the Arrival Hall of the airport.
He said the automatic scanning of the defendant’s baggage did not show anything suspicious.
However, when the baggage was searched manually, inspectors found white powder-like substance stuffed meticulously in the internal pockets of the bag. — mary@khaleejtimes.com
