Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Sharjah Police Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi said that the operations room received a tip-off from someone who received the BBM about the goods on offer.

After confirming the information provided, a team of CID officers was formed and the suspect was put under surveillance. The team laid a trap to arrest the suspect red-handed by sending a decoy to pose as a buyer of the goods.

After striking a deal with the undercover officer and agreeing to meet him, the police ambushed the suspect as he handed over the goods for cash. He was found in possession of large quantities of dangerous firecrackers. During interrogation the suspect confessed to his crime and he has been transferred to the Public Prosecution.

The police urged parents to watch their children and prevent them from buying such kinds of dangerous products which could lead to serious injury or even death.

Police warn against use, sale

The Dubai Police recently warned children and parents about the dangers of bursting firecrackers.

Brigadier Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, said incidents involving children who suffer burns while bursting crackers happen because parents miscalculated the risks of allowing them to use them. And in reference to shops selling the dangerous goods, he said they did so only to earn extra profit without considering a consumer’s safety.

Brig Al Mansouri called on people — both adults and children — to stop buying firecrackers and inform the police about shops selling them.

“There is a need to spread awareness among parents and children on the impact of using firecrackers which may even endanger the lives of children and could cause injuries. All authorities concerned should cooperate to prevent the sale and use of crackers,” he said.

They could cause deaths, severe burns, fires in houses or buildings and scare people who were unaware, he said, and warned shops selling firecrackers that they would face strict legal action if caught.
