An Emirati man denied in the Court of First Instance on Sunday having given a compatriot woman drugs that led to her death in an apparent overdose.
The 33-year-old jobless also denied in court he had taken tramadol, morphine and other drugs. He only admitted that he possessed medically-controlled pills for personal use.
"Around 3:30 pm August 12, we were informed about an unknown woman's dead body left at a hospital in Al Mankhool. I moved to the scene with other officers," a police lieutenant from the anti-narcotics department of Dubai Police said.
"A forensic expert was there examining the body. The woman was in her twenties and had injection marks in her left arm.
"We learnt from the expert that the cause of death was a drug overdose. By checking the hospital CCTV, we could track the person, who had parked in front of the hospital and dropped the woman's body there. He helped the hospital's medical staff take the woman inside.
But he disappeared right afterwards".
The police took the necessary legal action after identifying the driver. "We went to his place in Al Quoz. He was outside when we apprehended him. He admitted he had been with the woman and claimed he took her to the nearest hospital when she became very ill. But then she fainted," the lieutenant told the prosecutor.
The accused also told the cops that the woman had stayed with him for two days before her death. They would cruise around Dubai and sleep in the car at night as he had no money to stay at a hotel.
He denied in the interrogation having given the deceased any drugs or pills and claimed she had her own medical prescription.
The police found a pill in his pocket.
No banned substance was found in his home. He was taken to the General Department of Anti-Narcotics and later referred to the Crime Lab for urine test.
The defendant's urine sample test result was positive for drugs, according to the Criminal Evidence Department's report.
