A 37-year-old Pakistani man and his aides are accused of kidnapping an engineer and taking him by force inside a bus, has gone on trial in the Court of First Instance.
Two of the defendant's accomplices had already been convicted, while others remain at large.
The incident took place on June 20 last year and was reported to Al Qusais police.
The victim, a 29-year-old Pakistani engineer, said he was waiting at a Dubai Metro station at 2:30am when a bus stopped near him. "I was surprised by several men stepping off, assaulting me and forcing me inside the bus."
"They drove to a remote location in Ajman where they took me out and told me to pay up Dh5,400."
The men kidnapped the Pakistani as he had allegedly delivered counterfeit mobile phones to them.
"I called my friend and he came with the money. Another man was with him and he witnessed when I paid them the money. They let me go after that," the victim said.
