The intervention of their sister and her screaming, when she saw the older brother allegedly knifing his younger sibling repeatedly, saved the latter’s life and forced the alleged attacker to escape from the scene.

The Public Prosecution charged both the brothers with drinking alcohol.

The health condition of the victim got better after hospitalisation and the prosecution managed to interrogate him. During interrogation, the victim said his brother had always been jealous of him, and had not been in good terms with him.

“I was in the kitchen making food for myself when the brother stepped in drunk and verbally abused me, but I did not answer him. I rather laughed at his rambling,” he said.

The defendant then took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed him thrice in the back, and when he turned, the former stabbed him once in his waist and continued stabbing him. He stopped only when their sister came into the kitchen screaming.

The defendant told the prosecution said he was quarreling with his brother in the kitchen. “My brother overpowered me and I fell on the floor. He then tried to strangle me with his hands,” the defendant said.

“Then, I saw a knife on the floor, took it and stabbed my brother.”

He said he did not remember how many times he had stabbed him, but he “thought” he had stabbed him only once before washing the knife and fleeing the place. Their sister said that she was in the living room and heard a commotion and shouting in the kitchen.

“When I went to the kitchen, I saw my elder brother stabbing the other. I screamed and the elder brother washed the knife which was in his hand and left the house. I called the police and ambulance, who rushed my brother to the hospital,” she said.
