The Court of First Instance also ordered her deportation after serving her jail. The verdict is subject to appeal within 15 days at the Court of Appeal.

According to the prosecution records, she had been employed for one day only when she stole the valuables including precious watches and jewellery worth Dh34,000 and Dh18,000 in cash. She faced charges of robbery and causing damage to others’ property. The complainant, a 39-year-old Indian sales staff, said he hired the maid after reading a paper advertisement in March. She was still under her old employer’s sponsorship. The following day, he left the maid with his son and his mother-in-law when he went to his office. A few hours later, he learnt from his mother-in-law about the robbery.

His mother-in-law recounted how she and her grandson lost consciousness after the maid used a spray with a drug-like effect in the house. She woke up later and found the maid gone. The drawers in the bedroom were broken open. A police corporal confirmed having received a house robbery complaint from the complainant in Al Nahda on that day. The maid was caught a few days later from Rashidiya. The complainant recognised her thrice times at an identification parade.

The defendant is in police records for similar robberies. In one case, she used the same modus operandi to rob a family which employed her in Raffa.
