A maid who worked in a blind woman's home has been sentenced to six months in jail for stealing from her employer for years.
The Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court, presided over by Chief Judge Sameh Shaker, also ordered her deportation after completing her jail term.
The blind woman had already died when the one of her sons discovered that the maid had been sending large amounts of money to her home country, court records showed. Several remittances were reportedly made.
The sons urged the court to penalise the "dishonest" domestic helper who they said had not only robbed their late mother but also affected the family who had trusted her through the years.
The maid admitted to the crime, saying that her family needed the money to make ends meet.
