Dr Major Hamad Ali Al Dabanni, Director of Investigation and Criminal Search Department at the RAK Police, said the police received a large number of complaints in the last two months about thefts at shops and restaurants.

Police teams intensified patrolling in commercial areas which are less crowded. The police managed to identify one of the suspects, a 20-year-old African man. The CID laid a trap and arrested him red handed. He confessed that he committed the crimes along with three others aged 19, 21 and 22, of different Arab nationalities.

The police arrested the three suspects and when confronted with evidence and confession of their friend, they admitted to stealing mobile phones, electronic game consoles and cash. The police refused to disclose the total number of stolen items and referred the case to the Public Prosecution.

The official urged commercial shops owners to take security and safety measures to protect their business from such crimes. He also called up on parents to keep an eye on their children and check their activities.
