Khaleej TimesSeveral residents had complained to the police that they were cheated of phone credit after the suspects called them on phone and said they had won huge prizes in a draw, said a police spokesman.

They would ask their victims to transfer a certain amount of talk time from their mobile phones to claim the prize and would switch off their phones as soon as they got the credit.

The arrested suspects confessed to be involved in the fraud and they have been referred to the public prosecution office.

A police spokesman urged residents to report if they get any such calls saying they have won huge prizes. The police could be alerted on phone numbers 800151 and 06-5529000 or by texting to 7999.— afkarali@khaleejtimes.com
