An engineer has been charged with forgery for allegedly forging an expertise certificate and sending it to the Australian embassy to obtain an employment visa.
The 38-year-old Egyptian engineer has been accused in the Court of First Instance of faking the certificate and claiming it was issued by Nakheel. He then allegedly used the forged copy and sent it by e-mail to the embassy when apply for a visa.
The case dates back to June 8, last year.
"We received an e-mail in June last year from the Australian embassy. They wanted to check about an expertise certificate submitted by the accused. After verifying the copy, we replied back telling them it was forged and was not issued from our side. We informed the authorities concerned about that," a Jordanian public relations coordinator, 57, said during investigation.
"After receiving the complaint, the accused confessed he had forged the document. We handed him over to Al Barsha police," a police officer said. According to a Human Resources Department employee at the real estate developer, an embassy staffer sent an email to check about the defendant's job descriptions as the latter had submitted an expertise certificate to them to obtain an employment visa.
"I informed the manager. We found the letter the engineer used bore a signature of a director who quit work at Nakheel in 2010. Our department is the only side authorised to issue such certificates," he said.
The trial has been adjourned to March 21.
