The statistics showed that of these 4,458 cases, most casualties were a result of accidents. The figures report that the authorities brought in 49 cases of unknown death (which occurred outside the hospital) and the hospital recorded 166 cases of deaths resulting from heart attacks (outside the hospital) throughout 2012.

Statistics showed that the police and civil defence brought in 62 casualties who were involved in crimes and 1,654 cases of those involved in traffic and other accidents. In total, 113,198 cases were brought into the emergency room in 2012 of which 45,751 were UAE nationals and 67,447 were expatriates. The cases include surgery, internal medicine, orthopedic, ENT, ophthalmology, urology.

Commenting on the report, Hamad Al Shamsi, Director-General of Khalifa Hospital and Director General of Ajman Medical Zone said that the number of cases recorded during December 2012 reached 10,040 which was high in comparison to the cases reported in the same month in 2011, which totaled 8,061.

He attributed the increasing number of cases this year to the rise in the number of inhabitants of Ajman, and due to this the number of staff at the hospital has risen. Many departments have been initiated by the hospital to provide the best emergency services and external clinics services. The hospital also invites large numbers of international physicians from various countries to conduct surgeries and treatment in various specialisations.

The increase in emergency cases has also been witnessed due to the expansion of development in the emirate such as large industrial areas accommodating a large population of workers, as well as an increase in residential buildings.

Top officials at the Ajman Police and Ajman Civil Defence department say they are working closely with Khalifa Hospital in order to keep a record of all emergency cases brought in by their teams.
