Dubai — A 22-year-old Emirati stood trial on Monday in the Court of First Instance on the charge of assaulting his brother and verbally abusing him.

The incident allegedly happened on December 7, 2013, when the two brothers had an altercation which soon turned physical. The defendant allegedly punched his brother several times and hit him in his ear, causing him a permanent injury.

The complainant, 22, who has been referred to the Court of Misdemeanours, said in the investigation that he reached their father’s house around 1pm. “My mother and sister stayed in the car as I wanted to discuss a personal matter with my father.”

The complainant said the accused insulted him when he asked him to call his father, which led to the fight. A medical report showed that the complainant had bruises on his neck and face. The forensic report said the complainant suffered some hearing impairment due to the incident.
