Two bodyguards stood trial at the Ras Al Khaimah Misdemeanour Court on charges of assaulting an allegedly drunk tourist at a nightclub.
As per court records, the case unfolded when the intoxicated tourist started creating nuisance at the club.
The two bodyguards beat him up and pushed him out of the place following the orders of the management.
The first defendant told the public prosecution and then the court that he and the other bodyguard did not manhandle the complainant but only pushed him out of the nightclub, but he resisted, insulted and assaulted them.
He added that the entire incident was recorded by the surveillance cameras at the club.
"He (victim) even asked us to pay him Dh100,000 as compensation to withdraw the complaint."
The lawyer of the tourist told the court that the two bodyguards carried his client away from the CCTV cameras and assaulted him on several parts of his body as per the forensic report attached to the case.
The lawyer of the bodyguards refuted the complainant's claims and contended that his clients did not thrash the man who had, in fact, assaulted them under the influence of alcohol.
He added that some witnesses underlined that the man went to another nightclub where he stayed till 5am. Later, he lodged a complaint with the police station against his clients.
"If the tourist had been really beaten up, he should have reported it immediately to the police station rather than going to another nightclub."
The court ordered adjournment of the case to a later date to issue its ruling.
