Federal criminal court has sentenced 15 accused to three years in prison for presenting forged medical reports and prescriptions to get acquitted from crime related to antinarcotic consumption. The court also ordered the deportation of 11 accused after completing their jail term.
According to public prosecution investigation report, the general attorney had noticed that the number of acquittals in drug consumption cases was on the rise. He immediately decided to review all drugs consumption cases in which the accused were acquitted by the court during 2016. It came to light that the accused presented documents issued by one medical center located in Dubai to prove that they were allowed to consume the drug as they suffered mental disorders.
The general attorney tried to contact the number of the center provided in the forged report, but he found it incomplete. When the public prosecution reached the medical center, they denied that the medical reports and prescriptions had been issued by their doctors. The patients didn't have follow-up files in the center. What's more, the psychiatric clinic which was part of the center had been shut down in July 2014.
The public prosecution sent all forged reports to forensic laboratories which revealed that the documents and prescriptions were faked by using electronic copying and changing some of personal details leaving only clinic stamps and signature of the doctor.
The general attorney ordered police to arrest the accused. During interrogation, the accused confessed that they got the bogus documents and prescriptions after paying a person Dh11,000 to Dh15,000 while they were in jail. The papers were included in their file to support their case for acquittal from the court.
