The Asians were arrested from various areas including Al Majaz and Al Wahda Street as part of the police inspection campaign targeting those who practice illegal activities such as selling of banned tobacco and alcohol as well as begging.

During the investigation, the police found out that all those who were arrested were absconders or infiltrators with some wanted by police departments across the country.

Colonel Jihad Sahoh, Director of Investigation and Search Department at the Sharjah Police, told Khaleej Times that the police will continue the inspection campaign based on plans put forward in coordination with many concerned authorities such as municipalities and society establishments.

He urged the society members to cooperate with the police by informing them about such criminal activities as their efforts will contribute towards preventing crimes and ensuring security in the city: “The society is considered (the) vital partner in ensuring peace and security in the emirate,” he said.

Colonel Sahoh called on the public to participate in making the inspection campaign a success by notifying the police about illegal activities.
