"Our team was hungry for a win. It was really magnificent to play at the Eden Gardens in front of such a crowd. We played much better cricket than the last game. The most important thing in the game is how you finish the game," said Gambhir while talking to reporters at a post match press conference.
Gambhir was lavish in praising KKR bowler Iqbal Abdulla who picked up three vital wickets.
Asked about the difference in strategy that took KKR to its much anticipated win in the IPL, he said: "There was not much difference in strategy. We just played better cricket."
"The main thing is not how you start the game but how you finish it. If you look at all great wins you will see how match has been finished plays the key to the win," said Gambhir, who played a crucial role in India's victory over Sri lanka in the World Cup final earlier this month.
When asked whether he felt that 163 was defendable on this wicket, Gambhir said "Yes, absolutely, we felt that the score was defendable," Kolkata Knight Riders had lost their first match of the competition to Chennai Super Kings by two runs.
