Shillingford’s action illegal, bowler suspended

SINGAPORE - West Indies off-spinner Shane Shillingford’s bowling action is “illegal” and the player has been suspended from bowling in international cricket, the sport’s governing body said on Tuesday.

“A comprehensive analysis revealed that his mean elbow extension was 17 degrees which is above the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under the relevant regulations,” the International Cricket Council said in a statement.

The 27-year-old can apply for re-assessment after he modifies his action, the statement said.
