An inspired Seven Seas Strikers ‘A’ stole the show by scripting three magnificent victories. In their first match on Thursday evening, Seven Seas Strikers ‘A’ restricted Ericsson to only 10 runs — the lowest score in the tournament so far. They managed to chase that score in just one ball, thanks to a poor bowling display by their opponents that saw seven extras being bowled.
In their first match against Teknoware on Friday, Seven Seas Strikers ‘A’ after electing to bat, riding on Qadir Nawaz’s 40 off 15 balls posted an imposing total of 92 runs — the highest in the tournament so far.
In response, Teknoware could manage only 52 for the loss of 2 wickets.
Later in the night, while playing against Emirates NBD, Seven Seas Strikers ‘A’ came close to breaking their own record when they made 91 runs batting first. Opening batsman Asif made a brilliant 40 in 12 balls before being retired out. Emirates NBD could manage only 38 for 1 wicket. With the win, Seven Seas Strikers earned a place in the quarter-finals to be played out on October 15.
The other team to qualify for the quarter-finals from Group ‘B’ was Phoenix Medicines which displayed some impressive all-round performances. In their first match against Great Weld Steel Grating, Phoenix Medicines batted first and mustered 70 runs in five overs. Great Weld gave a tough fight but could manage only 62 runs for 4 wickets.
