Welcome banners - along with safety reminders - were up on Wednesday at popular leisure destinations across Dubai, from the cinemas to Ski Dubai, Dreamscape and Magic Planet.

A handful of movie buffs enjoyed the 'new normal' experience at The Dubai Mall's Reel Cinemas. With only about 28 seats available, it almost felt like a special VIP block screening to some.

There were also volunteers distributing sweets as a welcome gesture. The first show at Reel started at noon and the last one was screened till 10pm.

Leisure spots and cinemas at Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) malls, such as VOX Cinemas, Ski Dubai, Dreamscape and Magic Planet, were among those that reopened in Dubai on Wednesday, in compliance with the precautionary measures being taken to ensure public safety.

Guests at MAF entertainment arcades are encouraged to enjoy a queue-less experience by advance-booking their tickets on websites and apps.

To further minimise physical contact and exposure, MAF has made contactless payment options available at all businesses.

"Wherever food is served in VOX Cinemas and leisure and entertainment venues, the company has put extensive measures in place to ensure the highest levels of food safety are maintained," the mall operator said.

"Employees will be following strict safety protocols which include sanitising of workstations and countertops every hour and washing their hands at least every 20 minutes and before handling food."
