Passengers travelling via the Dubai International Airport have been advised to avoid using bandanas, scarves or shawls as masks. Emirates Airline has also told flyers to avoid plastic masks.

Instead, passengers must use cloth or surgical masks to ensure maximum protection.
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, the Dubai-based airline said "specific masks" may be required, depending on one's destinaton.

"Due to local government regulations, only medical face masks are accepted on flights from Dubai to Germany, France, and Austria," the airline said on its website.
Passengers must wear a cloth or medical mask "throughout Dubai International airport, during boarding, throughout your flight, and as you leave the aircraft".
Who can avoid wearing masks?
Children under the age of six years and passengers who have certain medical conditions do not have to wear a mask.
“If for medical reasons you’re unable to wear a mask throughout your entire journey, you need to complete a Medical Information Form (MEDIF) before your flight,” Emirates explained.
This applies to passengers with the following cognitive, intellectual or sensory conditions:
> Parkinson's disease
> Alzheimer’s disease
> Dementia
> Hydrocephalus
> Down syndrome
> Developmental delay
> Autism spectrum condition
Customers who require supplemental oxygen or have the following respiratory conditions:
> Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
> Heart failure
> Cystic fibrosis
> Asthma
