The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Tuesday reported 1,967 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 1,866 recoveries and 3 deaths.
New cases were detected through additional 153,645 tests.
The UAE has conducted over 21.5 million tests till date as part of the country's massive screening programmes to combat the spread of Covid-19.
The total number of cases in UAE as on January 5 stand at 216,699 while recoveries are 193,32. Death toll rises to 685.
Meanwhile, UAE authorities announced that all federal government employees will have to perform a PCR test every 14 days at the employee's own expense.
The Federal Authority for Governmental Human Resources on Tuesday announced that new Covid-19 measures will be implemented for employees of federal ministries and departments from January 17.
Employees who have received the Covid-19 vaccine will be exempted from the rule, according to the circular distributed to all federal government departments and ministries.
On Tuesday, Chinese vaccine maker Sinopharm insisted that their jab was effective against current virus mutations.
The makers of Sinopharm vaccine, which was approved by the UAE for public use, said they were confident the vaccine was effective despite a new variant strain spreading rapidly.
