UAE Covid vaccine: Dubai police chief urges everyone to take jab

The Commander-in-chief of Dubai police, Lt General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, has urged everyone in the UAE to take the coronavirus vaccine.

The Dubai police chief said the the UAE authorities have not spared any efforts in fighting the virus that has infected more than 96 million people worldwide.

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Thursday reported 3,529 Covid cases, 3,901 recoveries,and 4 deaths.


The new cases were detected through additional 163,285 tests, the ministry added.

The total number of cases in the UAE as of January 21 stand at 267,258 while the total recoveries are 239,322. The death toll stands at 766.

Al Marri called on people to pay attention to the fact that the world is still facing the pandemic, emphasizing that all members of society should implement precautionary measures to stop the spread of Covid-19. He urged them to take the vaccine to get immunity against the virus, and control the pandemic.

Three days back, Lt General Al Marri received the first dose of the vaccine, as the Dubai Media office posted a photo of him receiving the vaccine on Monday.

The Ministry of Health said on Wednesday that the total doses administered now stands at 2.16 million. This takes the rate of doses per 100 people to 21.85.

The UAE now ranks first in the world in the distribution of daily doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. In the past seven days, the UAE’s daily dose rate is 1.16 per 100 people. Overall, the UAE’s dose administration rate is 20.8 per 100 people — second globally after Israel.
