Select categories of employees exempted from returning to work

The UAE government has announced that federal government employees will resume working at offices at 30 per cent capacity from Sunday, May 31.

The decision is within the framework of enhancing the continuity of government work and the gradual return of employees in offices and deparments to provide government services. It's also in line with the implementation of the remote working system for workers who have been excluded from the decision.

The decision exempts select employees from returning to workplaces and they will continue working from home through the remote work system - for emergency situations.

Exempted employees comprise pregnant women, people of determination, people with chronic diseases and immune deficiencies, and elderly workers.

More exceptions

Employees or mothers who are taking care of their children - from grade 9 and below - and those with children in foster care or those that require permanent medical care under emergency conditions will also remain working from home.

The employees who share their home with vulnerable groups that are most at risk of health hazards and are in close contact with them, such as the elderly, people of determination, and those suffering from chronic diseases or with weak immune systems, are also excluded.

Authorities said the attendance rate will start at 30 per cent and will gradually increase based on developments, taking into account the application of precautionary measures for the health and safety of individuals and society. The situation will be reviewed every week.
