No Covid-19 positive cases among Abu Dhabi inmates
A number of inmates had been pardoned and flown back home from the UAE.
Protective measures put in place by the authorities have helped achieve "zero Covid-19 positive case" status at the correctional facilities in Abu Dhabi.
The Abu Dhabi Media Office on Friday said the police, in coordination with the judicial department and health department, implemented preventative measures to maintain the health and safety of inmates, leading to zero positive cases among inmates.
"These initiatives include activation of several digital and self-services systems, distance litigation, online money transfers to inmates' bank accounts, electronic monitoring, and increased capacity of facilities," read the tweet.
Major-General Maktoum Ali Al Sharifi, director-general of the Abu Dhabi Police, highlighted the efforts made to mitigate the impact of the pandemic through several initiatives, including "Moeen" system, which enables prisoners to register all their requests in one touch and get to know the daily schedule of activities, meals, medical examination dates, etc.
He added that a number of inmates had been pardoned and flown back home from the UAE.
Remote litigation via video-conferencing in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department also helped inmates to continue with their trials throughout the pandemic without visiting courts.
