India Covid: Mumbai exempts vaccinated travellers from quarantine

Mumbai - Multiple other categories of international passengers are also exempt, including pregnant women and seniors.

International flyers who have received both doses of the Covid vaccine will no longer have to undergo the mandatory week-long quarantine on arrival in Mumbai.

According to NDTV, Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation updated the advisory on Saturday to grant quarantine exemptions to international passengers from the Middle East, UK, Europe, South Africa and Brazil.

The BMC also exempted senior passengers above 65 years of age, women in advanced stages of pregnancy and both parents accompanying children under five years old from quarantine protocols.

Passengers with serious illnesses that require immediate medical attention, such as cancer, severe physical disability, mental illness and cerebral palsy can also skip quarantine if they have supporting medical documents.

Medical professionals who are travelling to perform life-saving surgeries or to attend to critical patients have also been exempted from institutional quarantine if they furnish proof from the hospital where they practice.

Passengers who don’t fall under these categories still must go through one week of mandatory institutional quarantine, followed by one week of home quarantine.

The new guidelines come as Maharashtra, among several states in India, have recently seen a surge in Covid cases.
