Top US infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci warned on Sunday that a new wave of Covid-19 infections could be on the way while urging former President Donald Trump to tell his supporters to be vaccinated.

“It would be very helpful for the effort for that to happen. I’m very surprised by the number of Republicans who say they won’t get vaccinated... I think it would make all the difference in the world” if Trump were to express support for vaccines, Fauci said in an interview.

Meanwhile, several educational institutions across the UAE have opened coronavirus vaccination centres on campus and are organising inoculation drives as part of their efforts to support the country’s vaccination initiative.

Vaccines are being provided at several universities for faculty members, students, alumni and their families in a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19.
