Coronavirus: UAE reports 3,432 Covid-19 cases, 3,118 recoveries, 7 deaths

Dubai - More than 23 million tests have been carried out across the country so far.

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Saturday reported 3,432 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 3,118 recoveries and seven deaths.

The new cases were detected through additional 151,096 tests.

More than 23 million tests have been carried out across the country so far.

The total number of cases in UAE as on January 16 stand at 249,808 while total recoveries are 222,106. Death toll rises to 740.

Government departments in Dubai have ramped up inspections of commercial establishments, as cases of Covid-19 continue to soar in the UAE.

Earlier on Saturday, Abu Dhabi extended distance learning by three more weeks for schools as a precautionary measure - to curb the spread of the virus.

The Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee urged academic staff, students and parents to vaccinate themselves against Covid.

To increase public safety, the Dubai Media Office on Thursday issued an advisory that reiterated precautionary measures for social gatherings and wedding receptions.

It stated that violators would be liable to a fine of Dh50,000 at least for hosting large gatherings at home. Each attendee will also be fined Dh15,000.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education announced that UAE public school students in Grades 9 to 12 will continue with distance learning until further notice.

The decision was made to prevent the spread of the virus, amid the recent spike in new cases since the beginning of the year.
