Move aims to amplify Zambia’s renewable energy capacity
The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Saturday reported 2,631 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 3,589 recoveries and 15 deaths.
The new cases were detected through 184,981 additional tests.
The total number of cases in UAE as on February 13 are 345,605 while total recoveries stand at 326,780. The death toll rises to 1,001.
In a statement, the ministry stressed its aim to continue expanding the scope of testing nationwide to facilitate the early detection of coronavirus cases and carry out the necessary treatment.
Leading the way for global testing rates, the UAE has conducted over 27.9 million tests till date as part of the country's massive screening programmes to combat the spread of Covid-19.
However, with a spike in Covid-19 cases in recent days, the ministry has urged the public to follow all preventive guidelines. The ministry has repeatedly stressed the need to avoid gatherings and urged the public to follow safety measures when stepping out of their homes and maintaining a distance in public.
On Friday, authorities in Dubai have shut down a famous restaurant for failing to adhere to Covid-19 coronavirus precautionary measures. Dubai Police also reported that it had fined a tour operator Dh50,000 for organising an outdoor gathering without adhering to precautionary measures.
Meanwhile, doctors in the UAE have said that Covid-19 appears to be spreading faster in the winter season, amid concerns over the new and contagious virus variants emerging across the world. Coronavirus is hanging in the air longer because of cold and dry conditions leading to an increasing chance of transmission — a development that could explain the surge in the number of positive cases, despite the UAE being a global leader in administering vaccines free of cost to its population. Daily cases have remained higher than 3,000 since January 12, against the backdrop of a chilly season.
