The Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, received the Covid-19 vaccine shot today.

The UAE Government shared a picture on their official Twitter account of Al Gergawi being administered the vaccine. "Al Gergawi emphasised the role of the health sector and medical personnel and their contributions to support the country's efforts to address the pandemic", the tweet read.


On October 16, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, also received a dose of the Covid-19 vaccine after the UAE granted approval for the emergency use of the Covid-19 vaccine that is being trialled in the country.

The vaccine, developed by China's Sinopharm, is now in the third and final stage of clinical trials and has so far been found safe and effective, according to authorities.


Over 31,000 volunteers had received the jab as part of the program. The vaccine is being administered to frontline workers and professionals who are at highest risk of contracting the virus. A number of top officials have also taken it.

Other UAE ministers who have taken the Covid-19 vaccine include Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Abdulrahman Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention; Obaid Al Shamsi, director general of the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority; Noura Al Kaabi, UAE Minister of Culture and Youth, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Member of the Executive Council and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office was administered the vaccine on September 24.
