"You ladies are chic here, right?" first lady of fashion and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham told an intimate audience at Mall Of The Emirates on Thursday evening. Giving a talk on her couture career, now comprising an eponymous clothes label and makeup brand, for the mall's annual five-day World Of Fashion event, the Girl Power icon couldn't resist fondly reminiscing on some of her own more famous looks splashed across tabloids and magazines over the last 25 years.
"I had some spicy outfits for a while there," she said while on stage at the shopping destination's Central Galleria Bazaar Capsule activation stage. "I look back at the images and I smile. It has been a journey and made me who I am. I cringe more at some of the makeup looks. We've done skinny eyebrows, we've done thick eyebrows, we've done way too much blusher - but it is a journey in beauty and fashion and it has made me who I am."
This year's World Of Fashion focuses on technological innovations in the beauty trade, honing in on elements including 3D printing, robotics and virtual reality. While noticeably amused during her brief tour around the various stalls, it appears the Victoria Beckham marque relies on traditional principles - more conservative suit wear with an emphasis on sustainability being a major aspect of the line - and a little family input, specifically from youngest child Harper.
"Harper loves coming to the fashion shows. We love to have fun with fashion and beauty. I always ask if she enjoyed the show, but she's only eight, so we don't take it too seriously, but she can have fun with it".
Husband, ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid footballer, David's comments, it was revealed, are perhaps a tad more specific.
"We were on date night and he said to me 'is there anything I wear that you don't like?' I said, 'no you look great in everything' because obviously he's David Beckham he does look really good in everything. I said 'do you like everything I wear' and he just said, 'why do you wear such baggy pants?' Maybe men sometimes prefer things that are a little bit more fitted?
"Having said that he does like my clothes. I think it was just one particular pair of trousers."
Do such comments influence Beckham's wardrobe?
"Absolutely not! I like to wear clothes that make me feel good and empowered."
The World Of Fashion discussions conclude at Mall of The Emirates on Saturday featuring designers Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos at 6.30pm.
