Swedish imports make their mark in Hollywood

LOS ANGELES - Swedish directing team Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein are in negotiations to direct a fourth instalment of fantasy movie “Underworld 4”, marking the latest Scandinavian imports to hit Hollywood.

British actress Kate Beckinsale is set to return as vampire warrior Selene and production is due to start in March 2011 in Vancouver.

Marlind and Stein recently made their English-language debut with the British film “Shelter”, a supernatural thriller starring Julianne Moore and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. The movie has yet to be released in the United States.

Scandinavian movies such as “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”, “Snabba Cash” and “Let the Right One In” are or have been remade while their directors and stars are starting to make English-language movies.

“Dragon Tattoo” actress Noomi Rapace has been cast in “Sherlock Holmes 2”, and Daniel Espinosa, the director of “Snabba Cash” who is now working on “Safe House”, a thriller starring Denzel Washington which is expected to be released in 2012.
