The show’s producers were so keen to have the 27-year-old pop star on board that they offered her $20 million for a year-long contract, a source said.

“She was being hotly pursued. They really wanted her,” usmagazine.com quoted the source as saying.

But Perry turned them down, and executives continued their search to replace Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson for the new season.

In July, Mariah Carey was officially roped in to judge, accepting an $18 million pay, which made her the highest-paid judge on any music competition show.

Meanwhile Perry, who has reportedly split from John Mayer, was spotted dining with Robert Pattinson.

Perry and Pattinson were seen enjoying dinner at Soho House in Los Angeles, reports thesun.co.uk.

They have been friends for a while, and after Stewart cheated on Pattinson, Perry was there to lend him a shoulder to cry on.

Now it seems the Twilight star has returned the favour, which also fuelled rumours that a potential romance is on the cards.
