Moza Al Rumaithy, supervisor of public parks at Ajman Municipality, said that the inauguration of the Park on the First Day of Eid Al Adha was planned in accordance with instructions of Shaikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Department of the Municipality and Planning. But following the announcement of Shaikh Maktoum's demise, the municipality decided to cancel the entertainment activities during the four days of Eid in all parks in the light of the mourning period.

She pointed out that the cancelled programmes included shows by musical bands, distribution of gifts to children by cartoon characters, displays of traditional UAE cuisine and number of contests and games to attract large number of families to spend their leisure time in such parks and meet with other families. The aim was also to provide the children opportunities to enjoy the happiness of Eid celebrations.

"The death of Shaikh Maktoum is not only loss for Dubai, but for all emirates and Arab world as he was a historic leader who made great efforts in developing this country which we are all now proud of. All people are sad and are not interested in celebrating Eid, which is why the programmes were cancelled but the parks were opened for the children to play and enjoy the amusement rides," she noted.

Ali Al Hamrani, Director General of the Municipality, said that Al Rashidiya is one of several community parks that are being constructed in several residential areas in the emirate. It is equipped with fun games for children and rides, benches, play areas for children, barbecue areas, water fountain, shaded areas and a special area for the people with special needs. “The park is also decorated and adorned with different types of palm trees and flowers," Mr. Al Hamrani said. He pointed that the park is one of several beautification projects being conducted by the Agriculture Section of the municipality at different sites in the emirate such as plantation of a large number of palm trees and different types of flowers as well as expanding the green zone in Al Mushairif and Al Jarf.

"The municipality is keen on increasing the number of parks in the emirate, and on planting as many palm trees as possible, since this traditional tree not only has a heritage significance to the country but is also important to the environment to help preserve it," Mr. Al Hamrani said.

As part of the housing plan programme, Mr. Al Hamrani said the municipality will also construct parks in several residential areas including Al Bustan and Al Nuaimia districts where many old houses were demolished and roads were expanded.

After completion of Ajman sewerage project which is one of the most important and vital projects for the emirate that is expected to bring more prosperity, many parks will be constructed and trees will planted in all parts of Ajman to enhance environment and develop entertainment resorts for the families.
