Five vehicles and a portacabin were totally gutted in a parking lot fire at the Nakheel area on Sunday morning
Official sources with the RAK Civil Defence Department told Khaleej Times that no casualties were reported in the inferno.
"The five cars were totally damaged in the fire" that happened behind the free zone at the Nakheel area in the emirate.
The Central Operations Room of the RAK police, alerted of the mishap, rushed to the site in a record time, and managed to contain the flames before spreading to nearby vehicles and properties.
High flames and heavy smoke were seen from a long distance, they added.
"It was not an easy job as the fire broke out in five vehicles and a nearby portacabin at the same time."
It took the firefighters less than two hours to put out the fire before cordoning off the area and preventing it from spreading to other vehicles and portacabins, the same sources added.
"We needed to use special cranes from the Department of Public Works and Service to remove the wastes and debris of the fire," they said, adding that investigations are on to identify the reasons behind the fire.
